For people experiencing homelessness, completing basic tasks such as obtaining an ID, renewing benefits, replacing important documents, accessing healthcare, or obtaining a phone to stay connected can be daunting. Each step often requires multiple trips, long waits, and significant time and energy, turning activities that should be relatively simple into barriers to accessing housing and other critical support.  

To help remove these barriers, LAFH created Homeless Connect Day, a monthly one-stop resource event that brings essential services directly to participants. What began as a small gathering serving about 50 people has grown to reach as many as 200 participants each month, with more than 40 partners—including  DMV, Social Security Administration, and LA Department of Public Social Services—showing up to offer support. Bringing critical resources together in one place makes it possible for people to get many of their needs met in a matter of hours, including free ID services, benefits enrollment, healthcare, smartphones, housing resources, food, clothing, haircuts, hygiene services, and other basic necessities. This fosters hope and belonging and helps participants take meaningful steps toward stability. 

Homeless Connect Day reminds us that ending homelessness is not the work of one organization alone. It is a shared mission that requires all of us. Every volunteer, every donation, and every service provided brings us one step closer to a future where everyone has a place to call home. When we remove barriers and bring systems together in one room, we create opportunity. And most importantly—we create hope.
