Housing Placement

We believe that housing is a human right.

Using a Housing First approach, LAFH works with every individual and family who comes through our doors to connect them with the interim or permanent housing solution that best meets their unique needs. In addition to our own apartment portfolio, we manage a vast network of landlord connections to help people transitioning out of homelessness to find safe, permanent homes. Over the years, our housing model has successfully ended homelessness for thousands of Angelenos.

LAFH placed 3,266 participants in housing in 2024

One of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done in my life is hand someone keys and say, “Welcome home.”

Participant Spotlight

Nora

Nora endured heartbreaking hardships—childhood abuse, teenage pregnancy, and an unstable home. After ninth grade, she had her first child and dropped out of school. Her older partner became abusive, and the violence escalated until a neighbor called the police, leading to his arrest.

Left alone to care for nine children, Nora struggled. She was evicted while pregnant and gave birth the same day she lost her home. With nowhere to go, she and her children lived in their car, facing cold nights, hunger, and fear. Constantly moving, her children lost friends and stability. At her lowest point, Nora felt hopeless.

Then she found LA Family Housing.

At LAFH, she feared losing her children, but instead, she found warmth and support. LAFH provided interim housing, keeping her family together. Staff helped her secure documents, enroll her children in school, and access mental health services. For the first time, Nora felt heard and empowered.

With LAFH’s Housing Navigation team, Nora found a permanent home. Holding the keys felt surreal. Her children ran through the house with joy, jumping on their new beds. LAFH continued to provide stabilization support, employment assistance, and financial coaching. Nora secured a job as a caregiver, a role she loves.

Today, Nora and her children have a home, stability, and hope. Thanks to LAFH, she has become the strong, independent woman she always hoped to be.

Partner Highlight / Jewish Community Foundation

LA Family Housing is deeply grateful for our longstanding partnership with Jewish Community Foundation Los Angeles, which has spanned over 30 years. In 2024, this collaboration continued through the provision of Hardship Relief Funds—critical support that enables us to meet the urgent needs of individuals and families facing financial barriers not covered by public funding. These funds are often the key to helping households overcome obstacles that might otherwise prevent them from achieving or maintaining housing stability.

One instance involved a single mother of two daughters who was preparing to move into permanent housing when her car suddenly broke down. Without transportation, she faced the risk of losing her job and would have been unable to complete her move or attend vital medical appointments for her children. As her moving expenses grew, she found herself unable to afford the necessary repairs. Thanks to the Hardship Relief Funds from the Jewish Community Foundation, she was able to repair her vehicle, complete her move, and begin a new chapter—secure in stable housing and equipped to care for her family.
